Thomas Rushing Towards City Record
For nearly two decades, the all-time city rushing record has remained untouched at 5,598 yards, accomplished by former Hayden all-stater Dan Davis. This year, that record is likely to fall to hands, or rather feet of trojan standout and future Minnesota Gopher, Ky Thomas.
“Coach started mentioning it this year, and they told me how many yards away. I didn’t have a clue last year,” said Thomas. “Coach A (Alexander) wants me to break it and he’s reminding me every day.”
Thomas started the season with 4,412 regular season yards on the ground, not counting postseason stats as they are not counted for city records. Thomas started 1,186 yards behind Davis’ 5,598 regular season yards in his four years at Hayden. As of Wednesday, October 9, Thomas currently sits only 70 yards behind Davis at 5,528 yards. With the fact that not one opposing team this season has been able to keep Thomas under 100 yards, it is likely that the trend will continue this Friday against 1-4 Washburn Rural.
“It’s a cool achievement, but I’d rather win state. It means more for everybody and the school.”
