A Galactic Game Gem

Published on January 29, 2019, Genesis Alpha One is a rogue-like shooter indie game developed by the studio Radiation Blue, and published by Team17. This is the only game published by the studio, which is specifically why I wish to place them in the spotlight and educate you on why this is an underrated game and why it deserves more love, acknowledgment, and respect.
It is an excellent selection of a science fiction video game I have ever procured for my gaming library in my eleven years as a gamer. I acquired the game sometime in June, near the end of my PS Plus Subscription; I decided to search for cheap games to purchase through “PS Plus Exclusive Discountsbefore my subscription ended. I came across this, and it was only $2. That’s right, $2! One of the greatest $2 I have ever spent in my life, and here is why.
Genesis Alpha One takes place in a fictional galaxy that is automatically generated upon a new game; the galaxy consists of fully explorable planets that the player can land and explore at their own discretion. The goal of the game is to find a habitable planet for humanity to colonize, as Earth is in ruins due to nuclear warfare and food shortages. The player is the captain of a crew on a spaceship that is fully customizable; connects rooms to hallways; installs rooms on a different level of the ship; walks around and interacts with items of the ship, and even assigns crew members to certain tasks on the ship to maintain its functionality.
In this universe, humanity consists of only clones in order to create the “ideal human” for survivability. (Hilariously, these clones are bald, and look similar to a clay statue). Throughout the journey, players can discover the DNA of alien species in order to clone them to add to their crew. That is not all! In order to achieve this, there must be an adequate amount of resources, but most importantly, the ship must have an environment that can keep the alien clone alive.

That is where the greenhouse comes in! The greenhouse is used to produce different photosynthetic chemical reactions to create a type of air that is sustainable for humans and other alien species aboard the player’s spaceship. Be careful, as the chemical reactions can create an environment that invites…uninvited visitors..such as giant spiders and other invasive pestilences, which lay eggs and multiply…then cause the crew to become sick with disease…or worse, destroy your spaceship.
New research or ship compartments can be developed by the Captain, such as weaponry, medicine, greenery, and other important components of a functioning ship, such as the crew, maintenance, and most importantly, planet exploration. How else is the player supposed to find a habitable planet? Exploration! The player, at their discretion, must take a crew with them to a foreign planet to scavenge for resources, discover caches of data, or something else that is important for the success and completion of the mission.
Exploration is not only done on planets; harvesting salvaged materials in space is important to procure necessary resources for room building. Again, be careful, as marauders and bandits may be nearby and attempt to invade the ship. That, or bugs are within the collected salvaged materials and begin to roam around your ship. Disgusting, right?
This is only a surface touch for this masterpiece of the game; the mechanics, engagement, and endless possibilities of the universe of Genesis Alpha One not only compel gamers to purchase the game but likewise take their time and explore the hundreds of planets the game has to offer. Please, purchase this game, and support the small development studio of Radiation Blue!
