This season Josh Henderson and his doubles partner Ethan Heckard have big plans for their senior year. Henderson began playing tennis in the seventh grade and doesn’t plan for his career to end with high school.

“Oh yeah, [i’ll be playing] in some sort of league [after high school] definitely,” Henderson said.

Henderson’s hopes for the season mirror his partners, to win city and make it to the state competition. So far the pair has a win loss record of 5 and 1, Henderson won the only singles match he’s  played so far and has high hopes for the season.  Although Henderson and Heckard didn’t pair up themselves believed it was a possibility that they’d be partners, neither Henderson nor Heckard have any complaints on the pairing.

“[My first impression of Ethan was] who is this tall freak, but we knew it from when we met that we were going to be partners, team V,” Henderson said.

In Henderson’s case playing sports helped him to grow not only as an athlete but as a person as well.

“I’ve learned to become more outgoing and to express myself better through tennis because I actually have fun with it rather than just take it seriously, I take life more fun now,” Henderson said.

When asked about his head coach Duane Pomeroy, Henderson had nothing but positive things to say.

“[Pomeroy is] a blast, he’s honestly the funniest coach and the coolest guy,” Henderson said

Henderson prefers to play doubles because of the support system you have with your partner as well as the more social aspect of having more people on the court to talk to.

“I prefer doubles because it’s a lot more fun, there are three more people on the court so I get to have more conversations and it just makes the match go by faster,” Henderson said.
