Rio De Janeiro experienced a major problem in their Olympic lagoon, which was created for the upcoming 2016 Olympic games. Scores of dead fish were found in the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. An investigation was launched by the Legislative Assembly of Rio De Janeiro, in partnership with the State Environmental Institute, into the cause of this event. The initial assumption is a drop in temperature changed the water and the excess of decaying matter lead to a lack of oxygen, subsequently killing the fish.

 

In Utah, Megan Huntsman, plead guilty in February to the charges of felony murder. It was discovered she had killed six of her seven children by either strangulation or suffocation. This crime was discovered after her estranged husband, Darren West, returned to the home and found a baby body wrapped in a towel, a plastic bag, and placed in a box. After the police were called, they discovered six more bodies, five were murdered and one was a stillborn. After the trial was concluded on Monday, Huntsman was given a sentence of 30 years before parole would be considered.

 
A Kansas lawmaker, Trent LeDoux, was sentenced to 18 months in a federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of fraud. LeDoux applied for three loans from Farmers and Merchants Bank of Colby saying the money, $460,000, would be used to purchase cattle. The money instead went to paying off past debts and financing his political campaign. In addition to his jail time, he must also pay $461,000 in restitution.
