Dr. Michael Hester introduced new principal Rebecca Morrisey to the staff. Morrisey was approved by the school board March 24 to become Topeka High’s next principal.

On March 31 the school’s faculty met in the choir room for a meeting held by Dr. Michael Hester, general director of secondary education. The gathering was in hopes of introducing the school’s future principal, Rebecca Morrisey.

Dr. Hester started out the meeting by introducing Morrisey. He mentioned the work she has done at Eisenhower and how he is excited that she will be able to share her skills with another set of people.

“She [Morrisey] gets kids, she understands her audience and she’s student centered,” said Hester. “She’s a constant advocate for her school and her children and she gets things done.”

Kerry Zimmerman, school science teacher attended the welcome meeting for the new staff member.  He worked with Morrisey when she was the associate principal at the school and is eager to have her back.

“I already knew her, I worked with her and I’m glad we have her” Zimmerman said. “. She’ll work with us to make this place continue on this fine tradition.”

Morrisey finished up the brief meeting by addressing the staff in letting them know how happy she was to come work with them and to be back at a school she loves.

“I’m really excited to come back to Topeka High,” Morrisey said. “It is just a place that gets in your blood.”
