Gender Inequality: World Wide Issue

People and organizations are battling social issues all over the world. One issue that needs to be addressed soon is the problem on gender inequality. This issue is one that affects both men and women all over and makes it so that women aren’t able to expresses themselves fully and degrades the way men can express how they feel.

Simple things women hope for but don’t always get are equal pay, making decision concerning their own body, and given the same respect socially as men. Those are smaller issues compared to world wide issue women all over face.

In Saudi Arabia women are not allowed to drive. Women are also not allowed to ride bikes and cannot ride in a vehicle with men they aren’t closely related to. Not only is this not fair towards women but it’s an issue for the country on how they are supposed to get their young girls to school. Men are not allowed to be in close contact with the girls and women are not allowed to drive, so how are the girls supposed to get to school? Currently they are trying to recruit trustworthy men to drive the buses. This doesn’t solve the overwhelming problem of women not being afforded a right that all people should have.

In 2014 Emma Watson, Harry Potter star announced the launching of the “He for She,” campaign. The goal of the campaign was to end gender inequality mainly shooting for issues in the U.K. Watson made points about how being a feminist has become unpopular for girls because it’s often misinterpreted to man hating. Many women who want rights are too afraid to stand up and be called a feminist because it perceives them as being too strong or manly.

Not only did Watson speak for women on this campaign but she also sent an invitation to men saying, “I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too.”

By no means do women face this alone. Men have to deal with this issue but in a different way. Men are taught to keep their emotions low and not share how they feel in fear that it will make them look weak. That is in no way healthy for men. This is a perfect way for men to develop mental illness of many different kinds. Men die by suicide 3.5 times more than women, a fact found by research the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Men are humans with normal emotions just like women. We need to allow them to act human and share how they feel without being made to feel small.

So what is holding us back from letting others act on what feels comfortable to them that doesn’t hurt others around them? Men should be allowed to share how they feel emotionally and wear whatever type of clothing they prefer without being made to feel bad about it. Women all over should be allowed the rights that men get and not made to feel lower in anyway when trying to achieve those rights. If we can all work for the common goal of getting past gender stereotypes and work towards making everyone equal we will see a decline in mens death and an uproar of ideas from women.
