Eleven million Syrians, half of the country’s population, have been uprooted by the ongoing civil war. Over 7 million are still stuck inside the borders of the country. Ensuring they get the necessary help is paramount to stopping the flood of immigrants from flocking to Europe. There are some groups which are doing everything they can to provide food, water, and medical aid to those who are in need.

The media reports recently have focused on the flood of migrants into Europe. Over the past month, more than 100,000 refugees have reached Germany. However, the majority of the refugees have flocked to the three countries which border Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, and Jordan. All three of those countries have taken in over 1 million immigrants. It is essential these countries are given the best support possible so the influx of refugees does not completely destabilize them.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has been issuing food vouchers worth up to 35 dollars per person to 2 million Syrian refugees in the region. However, in recent months, the group has had to drop roughly 700,000 people from getting assistance. In July, the value of the vouchers dropped from 35 dollars per person to 13.50 dollars per person.

It is these deep cuts which are causing more and more refugees to flee into Germany and Europe. The solution is relatively simple, make sure the people who are in need of aid get the help they need. Otherwise, this refugee crisis could get a whole lot worse.
