Trojan Profile: Max Lock

Max Lock, junior, is no stranger to being in the spotlight due to her goals to become a professional musician. Her recently formed band Sunday Heroine has been attracting some attention from critics on the Lawrence music scene.

“I’ve wanted to be a musician for as long as I can remember, I’ve been singing in front of people since I could talk.” Lock said.

Currently Lock’s band plays mostly alternative music with influences from bands such as Nirvana, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Dead Kennedy’s. Lock began her music career performing a very different genre. At the age of four Lock gave her very first live performance singing Reflection from the Mulan soundtrack.

“Max has a gift that I’ve been jealous of for years,”Maya Lock, younger sister, said.

“she was meant for music and I know she’ll have awesome adventures in her near future,”

There is no shortage of support for Lock whether it be from a friend, a teacher, or her immediate family consisting entirely of musicians and music lovers. Lock’s mother, father and sister all play the drums. The best advice Lock has ever received from Darrell Scott, a singer-songwriter based in Nashville.

“[Scott told me that] If you’re only doing it to get rich and famous it won’t happen. You have to give it all or none. That’s it.” Lock said.

Along with singing Lock plays both the guitar and piano and she writes original music as well. Lock’s favorite music genre is punk rock and when asked who she’d most enjoy opening for Lock said the Red Hot Chili Peppers, her favorite band.

“They bring on a huge crowd and put on a good show,” Lock said.

If Lock wasn’t currently pursuing a career in music her next career goal would be in the film industry.

“If I didn’t want to be a musician i’d be a film director, I have a lot of ideas for movies,” Lock said.

Although Lock’s band formed only one month ago they already have big plans for the future.

“[We’ll be doing] lots of recordings and possibly have music on the radio if all goes as planned,” Lock said.
