The Age of Adaline
Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) has been 29 years old for nearly eight decades, and never allowed herself to become close to others in fear of them realizing her true identity. Soon she falls for a philanthropist named Ellis Jones (Michiel Huisman) and realizes she has been alive for years, but has not truly lived. When a weekend with Ellis’ parents threatens to uncover her secret, Adaline is forced to make a decision that will change her life forever.
After a horrible car crash on a snowy night, Adaline stops aging. No this is not a vampire romance flick, sorry Twilight fans. As a result, she is forced to constantly move and change her identity to keep from suspicion. Before she decides to make another move, she meets Ellis Jones at a New Year’s Eve party. She brushes him off but to moviegoers its easy to see he will be showing his face again. The director, Lee Toland Krieger, gives audiences what they want when Ellis shows up at Adaline’s job the next day; making everyday after a challenge for her to keep her identity a secret.
The movie was filled with hope and sorrow. Adaline is thrown into difficult situations which make you want to scream and wonder why she refuses to tell her secret. Why doesn’t she want to know what it is to love? Even though you want to cry, you cannot because you will miss all of the little details. The Age of Adaline is a dramatic romance that will leave moviegoers feeling like all questions were answered.
