TOPEKA, KS (Jan. 15, 2026) – On Thursday, January 8th, Topeka High JV Scholars Bowl placed third in a meet hosted by Cair Paravel High School.
Led by Assistant Coach Smitha Elangikal, Topeka High started strong, losing only to Manhattan High School in the preliminaries. Following that, they were defeated in the semifinals by Olathe North High School in a tightly contested competition, but, refusing to return to the halls of Troy with empty hands, the Trojans came out victorious in a third-place tie against the visiting Wichita East Eagles.
Coach Elangikal has been greatly impressed by this year’s JV Scholars Bowl team, and she was pleased to come away from Cair Paravel with a medal. When asked about standout performers, she pointed to Micah Ansell, a sophomore.
“It’s always nice going to our fellow Topeka schools for tournaments,” Ansell said. Ansell serves as this year’s JV captain as a second-year member of the Topeka High Scholar’s Bowl team.
The success of this year’s JV Scholars Bowl team suggests good things to come for the Trojans
