The Senior Prank has been in development for the past couple of months, however it has not been a smooth process, with confusion stemming from planning and who was in charge.
The planning began with the StuGo senior class throwing out ideas amongst themselves, before sending out the top decided prank with the rest of the Senior Class through group chat.
“It’s really just collaborative,” said All School President Bre’elle Thomas. “We tried to share it with everybody in the Senior Class who wanted to be part of it, and then essentially see what they thought.”
Immediately after, Seniors began stating their opinion on the prank, however (to the effect of) the exact records of what was stated is debated.
According to senior Lucia Soriano, who was a member of the group chat, “It was very peaceful. It wasn’t people being like, ‘Hey, this is stupid, we need to change.’ it was like, ‘Hey, I’ve heard from people that the Senior Prank you guys decided on isn’t very good, and they don’t like it, so they were wondering if we could change it and maybe agree upon something else.’”
However, StuGo members felt differently, according to senior Imani Thompson. “Some of the feedback I wouldn’t say was really positive. I mean, they’re kind of just, I don’t want to say poking holes in the plan, since it’s for the whole senior class, but I think they’re just coming up with alternative stuff that we really didn’t want to think about.”
These complaints prompted StuGo to lock the Senior Group Chat, stopping any and all communication between the Senior leadership and the rest of the class.
“We expected a lot less feedback from the senior class,” said Thompson. “So we needed the senior class to draw back a little in their criticism of our ideas.”
This decision to close the group chat left many feeling unenthusiastic about the prank and the future moving forward.
“They just decided it by themselves,” said senior Lucia Soriano. “And now the chat is locked, and they won’t listen to any backlash or advice that people are giving them. I’ve been kind of like, okay, so StuGo just wanted to run the whole thing themselves.”
To try to combat this, StuGo created a Google Form and sent it out to all of the Seniors, allowing them to anonymously put their opinion of the prank.
“What we should have done from the beginning is put out a form for people to pitch in ideas,” said Thomas. “Because we all kind of just did it ourselves, which was not the best way to do it.”
However, even within StuGo, there have been some struggles.
“It can be hard to get your point across,” said Bella Culbertson, a senior in her first year of StuGo. “Sometimes it’s easier to go along with what the people who have been there for a while are saying. I wouldn’t say you’re being shunned or that you’re not being able to share your own thoughts. It just might not get heard all the time.”
However, despite these challenges, the Senior Prank continued developing, and on April 26, Stugo member Alejandra Valera Lopez-Pintor sent a message to the student body senior prank group chat.
“After reading all the feedback and meeting with StuGo, we have a couple of options we want you to vote on.”
What followed was four options, with a final option of doing all four.
The winner was chosen on Monday, and will occur tentatively on the 14th of May.
*Note, the prank is not a StuGo sanctioned event.
