Rebecca Morrisey, Principal

Lifetouch National School Studios Inc.

What were your symptoms?

“I lost my smell, body aches that made it difficult to sleep for the first week, some chest congestion but a constant feeling of weakness in my chest after simple exertions like walking across the house, nasal congestion (turned into a bad sinus infection-perhaps not COVID), a fever of 100.5-101.5 for twelve days (March 15-26, 2020), I didn’t want to talk as it took too much effort. I did, however, work remotely through the whole thing.”

How long did it take for you to get better?

“I was ‘bad’ for twelve days, and then took about 2-3 weeks more to feel like myself again”

Did you think it was Covid at first?

Morrisey: “Yes, my two sons are in medicine and told me to act like I had it. I was alone at my home with things delivered and no contact with others. I didn’t qualify for testing at first due to the questions being asked at the time, but towards the end of the twelve days with the fever, my sinus infection was so bad I went to the doctor. They too were concerned I had it, and I was asked to get tested the following day. I went through one of the drive up testing locations at the time, and the first nasal swab used for testing was very uncomfortable.

By the time they informed me I was positive, I was over it. I was the second or third case in Shawnee County at the time, and although I cannot be sure, the only place I had gone during spring break was to the state basketball tournament in Wichita on Wednesday. I started running a fever on the Sunday after. That was also before masks, hand washing or sanitizing and staying 6-foot distance from people, as we simply did not know much about the virus at the time,”

What did you do to get better?

“Time and rest. I did receive an antibiotic for the sinus infection, but otherwise I simply took over the counter medication.”
