After last season, the Topeka High baseball team looks to turn a new page. The Trojans were 4-15 last year.

“We have a lot of young talent and returning upperclassman,” said Damon Seifer. Seifer, a junior, has been with the Trojans for 3 years, and has spent all 3 years as a starting pitcher, and with no earned runs in 3 innings pitched, he’s a pretty good one too.

Another impact player talks about the new players on varsity. “We need to have the new guys come in and step up, big time,” said junior DeAndre Anderson. Anderson has played varsity baseball his entire high school career. “They need to contribute and be team players.”

Coach Glenn Miles sees this year as a way to develop young players and get them on the way  to being full-time varsity starters.”The goal is to be competitive,” Said Miles. Miles also made it clear that the Trojans need to work on their pitching.

Some player to watch this season are shortstop and utility player Connor Scott, starting pitcher Damon Seifer, center fielder DeAndre Anderson, and pitcher Logan Gage, who missed all of last season with a broken hand.

“If we’re throwing strikes we’re competing, if we’re not, we’re not,” said Miles. The teams walk to strike out ratio was 3:1, which means 3 walks for every strikeout, “We need to flip those numbers around this year,” said Miles. “I don’t like boring baseball.”
