Winter Jazz Band concert

The school’s music program holds a strong reputation. The drumline performs about 150 times a year and the marching band is involved in many community events. The jazz band groups at the school have recently been gaining attention with the quality of their performances.

On January 20th the jazz band groups performed in the school’s auditorium. The concert began at 7 with a variety of many different jazz classics some could include; It Don’t Mean a Thing, In the Mood, Summertime and Brick House.

Steve Holloman, schools band director has been directing for the jazz bands for about 35 years. For this concert he hoped the audience realized how good the second jazz group is.

“We expect jazz one to be good but jazz two is really good,” Holloman said.

The jazz one group has to always be quick on their feet because performances are always being thrown their way, sometimes without very far notice in advance. The group didn’t have a lot of time in advance to pull this concert together.

“This particular concert we’ve been working for the past 3 weeks but they’ve done great,” Holloman said.
