Dr. Wiley, principal plans to retire
In her office Dr. Wiley finishes up paper work for the end of the day. Over the past 10 years Linda Wiley has been principal and plans to retire at the end of the school year. “The kids (students) are why I’m here and the kids are important,” Wiley said.
Linda Wiley has been principal for 10 years and today announced her plan to retire at the end of the school year.
Starting her education career in 1971 Wiley has been apart of Topeka Public Schools 501 district for almost 35 years. She began student teaching at the school and will end her term her as its principal.
“I never expected to be a principal. It was about where I could be a person in the system to help make the best difference for kids,” Wiley said.
Wiley had a staff meeting with her employee’s this morning to announce her plan to retire. It was a hard situation but she looks forward to the future.
“It’s very sad but it’s exciting to know that there are people here that will carry on good things,” Wiley said.
In the next year the school district will find a replacement for Wiley to take over the position as principal of the school. When it comes to running such a unique school she hopes they will honor the task.
“Be sure to recognize what you have [job] is a one of a kind place where students are phenomenal. It is a special place that you better take care of at every level,” Wiley said.
