Sharing a voice, without having to say a word, is possible through a business website called Masked Majority. This was created by a small group of seniors in Topeka and offers a variety of t-shirts, displaying numerous viewpoints on controversial topics.

“They’re social and political shirts that kind of address the opinions that a lot of people have without wanting to say them all the time,” Lucas Ryan, senior and owner, said.

On their website, they give a brief explanation of their company. They include the purpose for their company and a mission statement as well.

“We’re building ourselves as centrists, we’re looking at both sides of the aisle. So right now we’re making fun of Brownback but we also have a design that targets Hillary and the e-mail scandal. And from there we’re planning on targeting both sides of the aisle so we can maintain that center line,” Ryan said.

The website launched on April 17 and already received a couple of orders through the following weekend. The future of this small business is still up in the air depending on it’s growth.

“As long as it looks like it’s doing well, I’m interested in keeping it. My other partners seem a little bit more willing to let it go. I think it could viable though, to support at least part of rent through college,” Ryan said. “If it’s still successful by the end of college, I would definitely look at continuing it and maybe expanding it into a future career.”

There are many steps one goes through to build a business. This course of action has made an impact on Ryan and will benefit his future.

“I think it’s fun, I think it’s cool to actually experience the process of going out and creating a business. I didn’t take the entrepreneur class here but I know that I’ve definitely learned a lot even if this does fall through,” Ryan said. “I learned the process to go file the paperwork with secretary of state office, I went to the IRS, and I’ve done most of the website development. So it’s definitely been resume building, because at the very least I now get to add webmaster and small business owner.”
