For football and basketball season, the Student Section committee from Topeka High’s Student Government comes up with themes for the games. Each theme is inspiration for what the students should wear to the game. Ben Burton, senior, is on the committee that comes up with the themes.

“We have student section themes to make the games more exciting for the crowd and hopefully to encourage more students to come to the games,” Burton said. “We ask the students what they want for themes and come up with a few ideas of our own, then send them to the school officials to get them approved.”

Keira Beatty, senior, is the captain of the varsity cheer squad, and enjoys the themes.

“The themes are great because  I think they make people more excited about the game,” Beatty said. “The themes bring together cheerleaders, dance team, and the student section and make us look like one unified student body.”

According to Rose Pennington, freshman, the themes are entertaining and they get the crowd excited.

“It’s fun to dress up and it gets people hype.” Pennington said.
