Clash of Clubs Monday Update

Club Carnival 2016 – Debate and Forensics Mounting Challenge to Reigning French Club

In continuation of the fourth annual Clash of Clubs, Topeka High’s Link Crew hosted a Disney Karaoke competition Monday after school. The French Club, winners of the past 3 Clashes, are facing determined competition for this year’s title.

The winners of Monday’s contest were representatives from the school’s debate and forensics squad, Kalese Warfield (senior), Isaach Johnson (senior), Isabel Ashley (senior), Annie Simon (senior), Simone Cruz (senior), and Grace Hatesohl (junior). They won a dance-off with the Thespian Society’s competitors after impressing the judges with their performance of “For the First Time in Forever: Reprise pt. 2” from Disney’s Frozen.

“We want to prove that we are the best, and we live for competition and adrenaline. Also it’s a way to get other people who don’t know about debate and forensics interested,” said Warfield, president of debate and forensics, when asked why Debate and Forensics participate in Clash of Clubs.

“I definitely think that Club Carnival and Clash of Clubs is a great tradition,” Warfield said. “It’s a fun day to go out and see what you can get involved in because it’s really important to be involved. Also, winning is great.”

After Monday’s victory the Debaters are tied in first place with the Thespians at 70 points each, while the French Club is a very close third at 65 points.

With half this year’s competition completed, there is no clear frontrunner. The perennial winners, the French Club, will be looking to show why they have won every Clash of Clubs so far with last year’s runners up, the Debate and Forensics Squad, and others poised to take the title for themselves.
